The phone really stinks right now because my tutor has called my grand-uncle to tell him about my progress, and her BB (bad breath) reeks.. yes all over the phone. I really don't want to touch that phone..
I'll leave you today with some lovely tutor quotes/stories:
- Yesterday she told me there was this trip with a bunch of Beijing Uni kids who are learning English and that I should go on this over night trip. They are going there to take a test. Then she drags me to the center to sign up, and then I find out that not only am I not going to be teaching English, I was going to roam around by myself as "leisure activity", and not speak English to everyone. Yeah.. OKAY. Then she's like, "Okay what about if I go? Will you go then?" YEAH.. OKAY.
Then the first thing out of her mouth this morning was "So are you ready to go?" I said I wasn't going. She said she has cancelled all her appointments today and tomorrow to go on this thing. I said I already told you I wasn't going, then she made me tell her all the reasons why I didn't want to go. SHIT, LADY. LEAVE ME ALONE! Thank God she is still going. I can get her out of my hair for 2 days.
- My eyes itched, and I rubbed it. She said I shouldn't rub my eyes, then took off her glasses and showed me the correct way to to rub my eyes, and to use my knuckles or something. Yes, if I want early wrinkles that is what I will do.
- She accidentally spat something out of her mouth and onto her arm, she licked it off.
- She was telling me the different parts of the mouth, then when she was telling me the word for "gum", she said her gums are different colors. Then she pops out her dentures to show me. CAN YOU SAY TRAUMATIZING????
- So the lesson is over, she should leave right? No. She's like if you're not leaving, I'll just stick around for a little bit. Darn that Cuenca, he signed online at that time. I wanted to talk to him, so the tutor sat next to me and started looking at my English. I closed as many IMs as I could and closed my emails, then I opened a piece of "news" so at least I will be entertained. I was looking at something about Jay-Z.
Tutor: Who was that black man you were looking at? Me: He is an American singer (I don't know how to say rapper.. if you do, please tell me) Tutor: Is he from Africa? Me: No, he's from America. Tutor: You like listening to African music?
- Then she calls my Grand-Uncle (the one who arranged my being at Beida) to tell him my progress (for some reason), then starts telling him about the fight(s) she got into at the Convention. Then asks him, "DON'T YOU AGREE THAT I WAS RIGHT?" "I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY WROTE THAT, THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT"
SCORE!!!!! She just left. But I don't want to touch the phone with her nasty BB and spit all over it. I need some Lysol wipes.

So I would like to share the "funny" moments I have shared with my lovely 63 year old, old school Communist tutor. I should have kept a daily record of the stuff she says to me since June 1st, but alas after today's chain of events I think I will start that.
( Don't you think she should get laid too? That must be it.. )

I would like to say that of all the cup noodle things I've had, the one I'm eating right now has got to be the nastiest.
WHO PUTS CILANTRO IN THEIR LITTLE PACKETS??!?!?
That is Beijing for you. Just kidding, I really need to change my views on the lovely Mainland that is China. On paper after all, Hong Kong is a part of China.. but my heart will never go to the Red Flag (I wonder if they're going to filter this journal just because I wrote that.. haha)
If it isn't obvious enough, I'm in Beijing. In fact, I have been here for about 2 weeks, with a week before that in Hong Kong. I'm learning the ways of the Mainland at Beida (Beijing University/Da Xue), and I have come to the realization that I am in the end a city girl and am not really nature-friendly. I need big buildings, clean cars, shopping districts, and.. Starbucks (yes Beijing has all those things but.. it's just not the same.) It's not like I'm camping in Beijing (which by the way I still have never done, and intend to keep it that way). I don't mind exploring on my own, using hand gestures when people don't understand my poor Chinese, or meeting new people. I just can't stand the bugs, the dirtiness, being stared at, and the disorder. If anything, it is disorder that really annoys me. Coming from Hong Kong, I thought I'd be ready for Beijing traffic; people crossing the streets even when it's a red pedestrian light, cars honking every 5 seconds, and the crazy traffic, pushing and shoving, the list goes on...
Beijing is a billion times worse than that.
I keep telling my mom that if I don't get run over by cars, that I was going to by bicycles. The biggest difference is that HK roads are narrower and distance between them are shorter. My chances have increased significantly everytime I want to cross the road. Cars don't see me, and bikers definitely don't care.
Not in an effort to defend myself from saying I am some spoiled suburbia brat who can't "rough" it and must enjoy sit-down toilets and bug repellants, that is not true. It's definitely not true that everytime I've gone out of the country I've had the first world feel (Bretigny-sur-Orge, New Territories in HK), but I can't help grimacing everytime I hear someone clear their throat and spit, or squatting on the streets. I'm still keeping myself opened to the ways of the Mainland trying to accept the cultural differences blindly, because I strongly believe that I can take away a lot from this!
(I've heard Shanghai is much better and also pretty fun.. but my preconception of the Shanghainese shall be in another entry.. maybe.)

I just finished my last final for Jeff Lewis' History & Systems, and in Pitzer IT updating because it is THAT important and I don't want to lose this feeling.
On the short walk to IT, I was thinking to myself.. what else do I need to do? Send out my announcements, start packing up the apartment, fill out about 20 pages of paperwork for my job.. plan activities for the weekend, wash my tank... something is wrong with this picture. What happened to the "I can't go out this weekend because I have to finish this reading (or attempt to)" and the "I am sooo screwed for this 15 pager.. I need an extension" , or the "School needs to be over!" mentalities? It's actually weird that I'm even thinking I have more work to do, because this is the moment I've been waiting for ever since Welcome Week during my freshman year at Pitzer.
"College needs to be over, I want to move onto life NOW."
And now, it is a reality.
For those of you who have graduated, I don't know if you felt as strongly as I do when you realized you have turned in your last paper, finished your last final, or gave your last presentation in college. This moment still hasn't sunk in for me. It's that feeling I've wanted for so long, and now that I've experienced it, I feel kind of.. empty, but not in a negative way... more like indifferent. I'm not saying I'll miss the workload or the deadlines, but I know I will miss the ambiance of being in a classroom, having discussions, feeling like you matter, living with friends (and the late night food runs.. who said that?!)
Wait, what does this mean?
After years of making fun of people who passionately care about what they are studying, I realize after 4 years, I have become the person I've secretly envied all this time. I actually ended up loving my history of psychology class, and cognitive development also. Picking Organizational Studies and Psychology as my majors were mainly by default and out of safety, but it's liberating to know that after 4 years, I am also capable of having genuine interest in my studies as well (and not just the interest of passing).
I will most likely update again after Commencement (on Mother's Day!) and definitely before I take off to Asia for the summer. But for now.. wow. What a heavy load off my shoulders.

Nobody told me you could control how your spaceship spins!!!! (Quite evident who discovered the control...) grrr
First, a big congrats to Rainbow on her Fulbright Fellowship and Christine on getting accepted into Med school! It is quite strange to be all grown up, and see the directions in life your friends are taking. Now the question is, will their paths change in 5-10 years? But before I get ahead of myself.. I need to deal with the now, which means..the countdown to May 4th begins.
May 4th is when all my papers, tests, and pretty much grades are due. It will also mark the day when I will either go out to celebrate, or stay in to celebrate (aka open my Kingdom Hearts II). May can't come fast enough!!!

So it's been awhile since I've updated... and lots of things have happened.
For one, I am now in the second semester of my senior year, and I just found out that I only need 1.2 credits to graduate (out of 32). So why was I even thinking of taking 5 classes? I'm probably going to end up dropping my Tourism & Travel class because it's just busy work that I really don't want to do. That also means I might be missing out on our whitewater rafting field trip though. hmmm. Technically, I could drop French as well, and take two classes instead. But let's not slack too much now...
I finally have spring break plans this college year! I love going home during break for the past 3 years, but it would also be great to spend some time with my lovely college friends in Puerto Vallarta especially since living off campus has made a drastic difference in our seeing each other everyday!
Diego and I had a great belated Valentine's/early Anniversary dinner at Bistro 561, the local culinary school's restaurant. I loved the foie gras so much. I think it's time to bring the 'rents here when they come down in May...
Oh, and I flew back up to SF last weekend for a job interview. And I'm very proud to say that I am officially employed! YESSSSSSSS! After the not having anything to do after college scare for awhile especially since my Fulbright didn't go through, by some miracle I was contacted by the second biggest insurance brokerage firm in the world. THE WORLD! Who knew my random resume dropping would pay off? Not I. So I'll be moving back to the Bay after graduation! CORPORATE AMERICA, HERE I COME!
Good timing too, because it was a "Happy 24th to Herms!" Saturday night. We celebrated it at Andalu's in the city and then hung out at Sip Lounge after. I'll try to find some pictures of that night.. haha :) And of course, lunch with Dara, J, and Glen at ABC the morning after.
I can honestly say life is great right now. Finally things are starting to fall into their places, and I'm loving every moment of it!
Oh right. Almost forgot about my French and Cog Psych midterms this Thursday.. whoops. So maybe not every moment... haha.

You know, I realized that I'm too lazy to update. It's just that I hate resizing pictures and uploading.. argh.
But anyhow, I can't believe it's almost November. Fall break was just 2 weeks ago and just came and went, and New York/Boston was a blast! Saw Diego's friends, Rosie, SANAE who I haven't seen in 10 years since she moved back to Japan, then SHOP SHOP SHOP and ATE our way around. Then, took the Fung Wah to Boston to visit Eduardo @ Wellesley and met her roommate, then to downtown for more shopping. Getting lost, then back to reminisce at the No-Name Restaurant for some lobster.
Me and Ed @ No-Name.. so touristy!
Happy 21st Rosie!! and Sanae :)
City Search's Best Pizza in New York.. Famous Joe's
and that's RIGHT.. i went to POMMES FRITES!!!
mmm... we got the roasted eggplant sauce, sweet mango chutney, and roasted garlic mayo.
We also ate at Hog Pit's, which is voted the best ribs in NY. Note how we did a bunch of restaurant research before we went.. haha. So anyhow.. 3 weeks passed and now I'll recap last night's Halloween.
So then there was the infamous trick or drink at Harvey Mudd. The 7 of us (Me, Diego, Becca, Ellen, Matt, Christine & Alexis) met up at our apartment so we can all go together. Each person required a wristband for entrance, but we only had 3. So we went there to check out the scene, and saw that they weren't checking IDs but bracelets only. Like the slick college students that we were, we rushed over to some random hall to cut out parts of the bracelets and scotch-taped the back. We did it so we had enough bracelet to cover the top part of our wrists. It was 100% brilliant because we all got in!
RZA33FC: u picked possibly the LEAST slutty halloween costume of all time
Haha.. it was great seeing everyone in their costumes, and thank goodness I didn't see any other Barney & Betty Rubble's. I have to admit though the downside of Diego & my costume was that it was absorbent, so if there were spills, my fleecy costume absorbed it right up. Random fire alarm within the 1st hr, but it doesn't matter. Stayed there for another hour, then somehow walked to the CMC apartments from Mudd. Pretty cool, sectioned off a mingling section and another for dance.. but yeah. There were some stupid girls who were cutting, and I kept yelling "I'm going to clock that bitch!" Haha..
Me and Fork!! What a cute Hershey's Kiss :)
Then went to CMC to harrass G-money aka Glenn, and thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu for driving to Denny's and then to Jack in the Box. Somehow we got back to the apartment back at 3am, and now my costume's on my floor. Thank goodness it was daylight savings, or else I would have been s-c-r-e-w-e-d for today :)
Hope everyone's weekend halloween celebrations went well! Wish I was back in the Bay to celebrate :(

[25 Jul 2005|07:26pm] |
Ok, so Wirefly had a deal for a free BLACK razr, and I took it. It was a scheme to try and get new Cingular users. Diego got his number ported since he had T-Mobile. Edlyn and I couldn't port ours, since we were already AT&T users. Edlyn bitched, and got her # ported. I didn't, so I have a new number. OK? :( So in conclusion, Diego, Edlyn, and I all have the same phones. What. The. Heck.
On the flip side, I had two lines for 2 weeks, and I don't have to pay two bills since I just merged my account.. yesssssssssssssss.

Yesterday was one of the better Friday's I've had :)
I got off work around 3, then Diego came out around 3:45 to hang out for a bit while his parents are still jet-lagged. Met up with Martin & Chris at 4 at the SoMa safeway, met up with Lauren and sat outside of Safeway on the nice tables for awhile. Went to 21st Amendment for some pre-game food and drinks.. then Chris fell asleep. Hahaha. Diego left around 6:45 ish.. and off to SBC park we go.
So I went to my first baseball game. Ever. I don't know why I've never gone to one before! It was so fun and I love it! Herms, Martin & Chris definitely made it fun.. + great crowd, great food, GREAT GAME (so glad it was a high-scoring game, or else I would have been bored out of my mind), and MARTIN CAUGHT A BALL a la Luis Castillo!!! Too bad he couldn't get it signed. I knew my seats were great but thank goodness I didn't have the experience to compare haha.. like if I sat in the cuts where there were NO lights. 16th row from 3rd base baby!
"These seats are MONEY!" ~ Martin
On the other hand.. Martin left this morning at 4am on a jetplane (or driving across the country) to MD :( So in honor of that, I'll leave you with another Martin quote, when he took me to take my written exam for my permit and i failed.. bonne journee to the 'Tuna!
"Don't feel bad, this will be one of the many tests you'll fail in life!" ~ my #1 Martin quote

Daniel drew a pretty accurate picture of what my intern office!

So it's already mid-July, when did summer get to be half over?? And why is it that I've only seen my friends a couple of times this past summer, as opposed to seeing them at least 2x a week compared to last summer and the summer before that? Lame.. I miss seeing people, but I get so tired after work, and it's family time on the weekends. :(
